On a Friday night after hanging out with his straight mates, Russell heads out to a nightclub and picks up Glen. And so begins a weekend - in bars and in bedrooms, getting drunk and taking drugs, telling stories and having sex – that will resonate throughout their lives. Haigh's tender unpeeling of the emotional and psychological layers of two young men coming into their own was the talk of the South by Southwest film festival, and comes to the UK on the back of international film festival acclaim.

SHE MONKEYS
"One of the most intense and complex feature debuts to come from Sweden since Lukas Moodyson's „Show Me Love‟" – Variety

Emma is a girl who likes to control. When she tries out for the local horseback acrobatics team she meets Cassandra, a strong, attractive and vivacious girl. As they get to know each other they share a sense of wicked fun and quickly become best friends. But feelings of jealousy, competiveness and sexual attraction have them pushing each other to their limits. As Emma spends more and more time away from home with Cassandra, her little sister Sara also begins to discover her own sexual identity, all the while pining for affection from a reluctant babysitter.

Lisa Aschan's taboo-busting She Monkeys lifts the lid on a group of girls for whom gender is both weapon and toy, pushing the boundaries of political correctness to breaking point.

BEAUTY
“A highly subtle piece. Impressive directing and the development of the film‟s intrigue guarantee the director a position of privilege at future Cannes festivals”. - Cineuropa

Dir. Oliver Hermanus / South Africa / 99mins
Sat 22 | 18:00 | Vue Screen 6 Sun 23 | 15:15 | Vue Screen 6

Francois lives a skillfully controlled, well managed life, in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Father of two daughters and a devoted husband, he is wholly unprepared when a chance encounter unravels his clean and ordered existence.23-year-old Christian is the son of a long lost friend. By all accounts he is the personification of a handsome young man in the prime of his life. Francois is so disarmed by the young man that it instantly ignites within him an all consuming infatuation and misplaced lust.

Winner of the Queer Palm at this year's Cannes Film Festival, Oliver Hermanus' impressive examination of one man's damaging self-hatred is a disturbing and provocative piece of work. In dealing with such contentious subjects as homophobia and racism in contemporary South Africa with unapologetic candour, Beauty challenges the viewer to understand the plight of someone trapped by their environment and desperate to ignore the truth, no matter what the cost.
