The Establishing Shot: SPEEDY SINGHS UK PRESS CONFERENCE with RUSSELL PETERS, VINAY VIRMANI & GURPREET GHUGGI SINGH

THE CRÈME OF INTERNATIONAL TALENT DESCEND UPON THE UK TO ANNOUNCE THE CROSSOVER FILM OF 2011 ‘SPEEDY SINGHS’

Comedy Sensation Russell Peters and Screen Debutant Vinay Virmani alongside fellow
Cast and Crew Members at London Press Conference

Friday 23rd of September, London: Today saw some of the most lauded and iconic stars from American, Canadian and Indian cinema and entertainment take to the stage in London to promote one of the most exciting Hollywood crossover films to emerge in recent times, ‘Speedy Singhs’, releasing in the UK on Friday 30th September 2011. International comedy sensation, Russell Peters, and rising star of cinema, Vinay Virmani, joined fellow cast and crew members including much adored comedian/actor Gurpreet “Ghuggi” Singh and co-producer Ajay Virmani as they addressed the audience and conducted a Q&A session with media in attendance.

Russell Peters entertained the media with his witty comments and perfect comic timing as he spoke about his experience of working in the film. He commented, “I always worry about what people will think of my films but I actually LOL’d (laughed out loud) when I saw this. I actually got teary eye when I saw the film at the Toronto International Film Festival where it premiered. The film is shot, directed and cut extremely well.”

Indian comedy king Gurpreet “Ghuggi” Singh added, “I have never seen or experienced anything like Speedy Singhs before with its combination of Hollywood and Bollywood. It was great to work and share a screen space with Russell.”

Debutant star Vinay Virmani has received rave reviews from journalists and critics alike for his performance as Rajveer Singh. In commenting on the mass appeal the film will have crossing cultural and generational boundaries, he said, “Everyone can relate to the film, it is something everyone, of all ages, can enjoy. Every time I look at the Speedy Singhs poster, it shows that people have come from all over to be in this film from all industries, not confided by any boundaries. To sum, Speedy Singhs is about love, life and laughter.”

Speedy Singhs tells the story of Rajveer Singh essayed by Vinay Virmani caught between two cultures and two sets of ideals. The film speaks of the sports genre underdog, but in this case, the underdog reflects issues of assimilation that immigrants deal with daily as they strive for acceptance in their new home country. The entire cast highlighted the backdrop of the script as it explores the issues of race relations, migration and cross-cultural tensions while superbly balancing both tenderness and humour for the silver screen. Vinay Virmani and Russell Peters both reflected on their own experiences growing up in suburban Canada when Vinay mentioned “there are elements in the film that are from my experience”.

Co-producer Ajay Virmani echoed this saying, “Speedy Singhs is a very simple movie made from the heart and carries a message of all the struggles families from India go through. The story is based on personal experiences, about coming of age and trying to find a balance between being Indian and Canadian.”

As a surprise treat for the audiences and to highlight the success of the film’s music, in true hearty Punjabi style, “Ghuggi” and Vinay shared a musical moment as they Bhangra’d to the hit song Ne Aaja Ve.

Directed by Hollywood filmmaker Robert Lieberman (‘D3: The Mighty Ducks’, ‘Table for Five’) and produced by First Take Entertainment and Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar’s Hari Om Entertainment, ‘Speedy Singhs’ is a gripping, cross-cultural hockey drama set in the Indo-Canadian community of suburban Toronto, Canada. Other stars in the film include Hollywood heartthrob, Rob Lowe; the demure Camilla Belle (‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’, ‘10,000 BC’); and veteran of Indian cinema Anupam Kher (‘Bend it like Beckham’). A galaxy of other exciting cameos are provided by the likes of recording artist and actor Aubrey “Drake” Graham and Grammy Award winning rapper Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. Ludacris added his vocals to the cross-urban music track of the year, “Shera Di Kaum”, the promotional song for ‘Speedy Singhs’, where he also features in the video.

‘Speedy Singhs’ releases in cinemas across UK and worldwide on 30th September 2011.

The Establishing Shot: PVIPE MUSIC SIGNS WITH INGROOVES/UNIVERSAL AND BRINGS 2PAC'S ROAD DOG ALONG FOR THE RIDE

PVIPE Music, a division of The PVIPE Group, has signed a digital distribution pact with INgrooves/Universal Music that will strengthen the company's hand in gaining widespread exposure for its artists to the huge consumer base in cyberspace.
David Marshall Pryce, CEO of The PVIPE Group, Phoenix VIP Events and PVIPE Music, says, "The bottom line is that INgrooves/Universal wants to do business with people like us. People who are marketing and promoting records with sweat equity, industry know-how and an extensive network on the promotion side of the business."

PVIPE Music's artists are diversified to include: HipHop, rap/R&B, country/rock, pop/alternative and Christian rock, just to name a few. First out in a few weeks is Big Syke, a rapper who recorded with 2Pac on his multi-platinum album All Eyez on Me and other projects.

"My deal with PVIPE allows me to be in control of my own destiny," Big Syke says. "PVIPE Music is not like any other label that I've dealt with. The way my deal is structured I can do just about anything I want to do."

Darrell Thompson, a veteran entertainment lawyer with professional ties to major artists including Jay-Z, the Black Eyed Peas, Teddy Riley, and most recently, Tyrese, negotiates the deals.

"There are no more borders in the music business," Thompson said, echoing PVIPE's strategy. "The technology that has transformed the industry has seen to that. Going to London, Africa, Japan or the Caribbean in search of product and business is not a stumbling block, provided you can bring that cultural sensibility to a mass market. How PVIPE brings that to the table is through David's marketing experience. He is very, very good at what he does."

In celebration of all of these pacts, PVIPE Music, along with Black Radio Exclusive (BRE) Magazine (Pryce and his wife are on the cover of the September issue) and Episential Skin Care (another of Pryce's companies), will hold a party in Hollywood later this month.

The Establishing Shot: TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SMASHES BOX OFFICE!

TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SMASH!

STUDIOCANAL spies bright new era with company's biggest ever UK & Ireland opening weekend and number one bow for TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY

The newly re-branded UK arm of European powerhouse STUDIOCANAL stormed out of the blocks this weekend as TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, the first film to carry the company's new banner, debuted at number one at the UK and Irish Box Office, becoming the third biggest 3 day September opening on record.

The picture, a Working Title production, fully financed by STUDIOCANAL, delivered the latter's biggest ever three day UK & Ireland opening figure with £2.805m from 382 sites for a per screen average in excess of £7200 and crowned a mighty year for the company becoming its second number one movie of the past 12 months (after UNKNOWN) with box office takings in 2011 already making it the biggest in its 11 year history.

Speaking on Monday STUDIOCANAL UK Chief Executive Danny Perkins commented "We're delighted to be able to celebrate such a terrific launch for both TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY and the new STUDIOCANAL brand in the UK. These outstanding opening weekend figures are testament to the quality of the film that our friends at Working Title have delivered, the tireless support and availability of this excellent cast and director and to the hard work, creativity, skill and passion that the STUDIOCANAL team have poured into a film that we are immensely proud to release."

Working Title co-chairman Tim Bevan said “This is a fantastic result and all of the film makers are extremely grateful to STUDIOCANAL for doing a great job. Films like this are very difficult to get made and when they connect with the audience like this the success is all the sweeter”

Olivier Courson, Chairman and CEO of STUDIOCANAL commented "I am thrilled that Tinker Tailor has received such a great reception from cinemagoers and reviewers this weekend. At STUDIOCANAL, we are all very proud to have been a part of this film which has brought together the best of European cinema from producers, director, literature, cast and crew.”

Sales of the John le Carre book also saw a significant increase following the film's UK film premiere (Tuesday) which publishers expect to result in a high bestseller list placing when figures are announced this week.

Speaking about the movie in an earlier statement le Carre had said "The film, through my very personal prism, is a triumph. And if people write to me and say, ‘How could you let this happen to poor Alec Guinness,’ I shall reply that, if ‘poor Alec’ had witnessed Oldman’s performance, he would have been the first to give it a standing ovation.

It’s not the film of the book. It’s the film of the film, and to my eye a work of art in its own right. I’m very proud to have provided Alfredson with the material, but what he made of it is wonderfully his own."

The spy thriller features a stellar cast including Gary Oldman, Kathy Burke, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Konstantin Khabensky, Svetlana Khodchenkova, Roger Lloyd Pack, and Mark Strong. Directed by Tomas Alfredson, it is a Working Title production for STUDIOCANAL.

Set in the 1970s, TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY finds George Smiley (Gary Oldman), a recently retired MI6 agent, doing his best to adjust to a life outside the secret service. However, when a disgraced agent reappears with information concerning a mole at the heart of the Circus, Smiley is drawn back into the murky field of espionage. Tasked with investigating which of his trusted former colleagues has chosen to betray him and their country, Smiley narrows his search to four suspects - all experienced, urbane, successful agents - but past histories, rivalries and friendships make it far from easy to pinpoint the man who is eating away at the heart of the British establishment.

The screenplay is by Peter Straughan and Bridget O’Connor and the film, which was shot in London, Budapest and Istanbul is produced by Working Title’s co-chairmen Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner and Robyn Slovo. The executive producers are Debra Hayward, Liza Chasin, Douglas Urbanski, Peter Morgan, Olivier Courson, Ron Halpern and John le Carré.

The Establishing Shot: JOE WRIGHT TO DIRECT ANNA KARENINA; KEIRA KNIGHTLEY, JUDE LAW, AARON JOHNSON TO STAR IN TOM STOPPARD-SCRIPTED ADAPTATION

Joe Wright will direct the epic romance Anna Karenina, adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love). The Working Title Films production will commence filming in the U.K. and Russia this month. Focus Features will distribute the movie domestically, and Universal Pictures International (UPI) will distribute the movie internationally, in the second half of 2012.

Anna Karenina marks Mr. Wright’s third Working Title movie with Focus and UPI, following the award-winning boxoffice successes Pride & Prejudice and Atonement. Also for Working Title and UPI, he directed The Soloist; also for Focus, he most recently directed the hit adventure thriller Hanna.

Working Title co-chairs Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing Anna Karenina with Paul Webster; the three were Academy Award nominees as the producers of Mr. Wright’s Best Picture-nominated Atonement. Also with Focus, Mr. Webster was a Golden Globe Award nominee as producer of Eastern Promises.

Keira Knightley, Academy Award-nominated for Pride & Prejudice, will star as Anna Karenina in her third collaboration with Mr. Wright. Ms. Knightley will be starring opposite two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law, as Anna’s husband Aleksei Karenin; and Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy), as Count Vronsky. Rounding out the cast will be Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire), Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice), Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows), Alicia Vikander (The Seventh Son), two-time Academy Award nominee Emily Watson, Olivia Williams (Hanna), and Ruth Wilson (Luther).

Also reteaming with Mr. Wright on Anna Karenina are Academy Award-winning composer Dario Marianelli, twice-Academy Award-nominated costume designer Jacqueline Durran, and three-time Academy Award-nominated production designer Sarah Greenwood. The cinematographer will be Academy Award winner Philippe Rousselot. Melanie Ann Oliver (Focus’ Jane Eyre) will edit the feature. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui will be the choreographer on the movie.

The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.

Mr. Bevan commented, “Everyone at Working Title is proud to affirm a longtime collaboration with Joe Wright through this, our fourth picture together. That we are able to re-convene cast and crew from Pride & Prejudice and Atonement makes it all the more exciting. We anticipate that this will be a defining screen version of Anna Karenina.”

Universal Pictures markets and distributes films internationally through Universal Pictures International (UPI), which officially began doing business on January 1, 2007. In the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, German-speaking Switzerland, Benelux, Russia, Australia, Mexico and France, UPI directly markets and distributes movies through our local offices, creating campaigns and release strategies that respond to the culture and market behavior of those territories. In other parts of the world, Universal distributes through Paramount’s local offices as it transitions out of the formerly shared UIP model. In some smaller territories we continue to work through UIP on theatrical distribution.

Working Title Films, co-chaired by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner since 1992, is one of the world’s leading film production companies. Founded in 1983, Working Title has made nearly 100 films that have grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide. Its films have won 6 Academy Awards, 26 BAFTA Awards, and prestigious prizes at the Cannes and Berlin International Film Festivals. In addition to Anna Karenina, the 2011/2012 slate includes Tomas Alfredson’s thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and Tom Hardy; Baltasar Kormákur’s Contraband, starring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale; Asif Kapadia’s Senna, the company’s first documentary feature, about legendary race car driver Ayrton Senna; Rowan Atkinson in Johnny English Reborn, directed by Oliver Parker; and Ken Kwapis’ Everybody Loves Whales, starring Drew Barrymore and John Krasinski.

THE ESTABLISHING SHOT: SPEEDY SINGH AKS BREAKAWAY UNITES THE CREME DE LA CREME OF MAINSTREAM & INDIAN TALENT ON SCREEN IN THE CROSSOVER FILM OF 2011

‘Rajveer Singh’ (Vinay Virmani) is 21 years old and aspires to play professional hockey, struggling to succeed in a predominantly white man’s sport. Facing prejudice from his peers, he decides to assemble an all-Sikh hockey team called ‘Speedy Singh’ and these talented young men begin a challenging journey of social acceptance and ethnic assimilation, while still retaining their proud roots. However, further conflict arises for Rajveer at home, as his orthodox Sikh father (Anupam Kher) wants him to dedicate his life to the family business and the Sikh faith. Caught at the crossroads between family duty and following his dreams, Rajveer prepares for the biggest challenge and game of his life.

‘SPEEDY SINGH’ UNITES THE CRÈME DE LA CRÈME OF MAINSTREAM &
INDIAN TALENT ON SCREEN IN THE CROSSOVER FILM OF 2011

Hollywood Director Robert Lieberman presents one of the most heartfelt Cross-Cultural Dramas of recent times, releasing on 23rd September 2011

Some of the most lauded and iconic stars from American, Canadian and Indian cinema and entertainment join forces in 2011’s most poignant drama, ‘Speedy Singh’, releasing in cinemas worldwide and in the UK on Friday 23rd September 2011. Produced by First Take Entertainment and Hari Om Entertainment, ‘Speedy Singh’ is a gripping, cross-cultural hockey drama set in the Indo-Canadian community of suburban Toronto, Canada.

Directed by Hollywood filmmaker Robert Lieberman (‘D3: The Mighty Ducks’, ‘Table for Five’), ‘Speedy Singh’ features Hollywood heartthrob, Rob Lowe; global comedy sensation Russell Peters and the demure Camilla Belle (‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’, ‘10,000 BC’) alongside Indian stars including sensational screen debutant Vinay Virmani who delivers a world class performance, and veteran of Indian cinema Anupam Kher (‘Bend it like Beckham’). The co-producer of the film is India’s biggest star, Akshay Kumar, who is the first Bollywood star to become a producer of a major Hollywood film. Akshay continues to make his mark in Hollywood and makes a guest appearance as himself in the film. A galaxy of other exciting cameos are provided by the likes of recording artist and actor Aubrey “Drake” Graham and Grammy Award winning rapper Chris “Ludacris” Bridges. Ludacris added his vocals to the cross-urban music track of the year, “Shera Di Kaum”, the promotional song for ‘Speedy Singh’, where he also features in the video. The track is already championing the airwaves and global playlists ahead of the film’s release.

Riveting, entertaining but also entrenched in a strong social context, ‘Speedy Singh’ explores the issues of race relations, migration and cross-cultural tensions while superbly balancing both tenderness and humour. It tells the story of a young man caught between two cultures and two sets of ideals. The film speaks of the sports genre underdog, but in this case, the underdog reflects issues of assimilation that immigrants deal with daily as they strive for acceptance in their new home country.

‘Speedy Singh’ also has a generational story to tell, as a young man tries to find his way in a new, western world, daring to disobey his father’s sacred traditions. It gives the audience an insight into the little known Sikh culture, a beautifully humble group of South Asians that embrace a strong sense of community. These real issues ground ‘Speedy Singh’ in a story that has deep resonance – even in its hilarity, it has poignancy.

Comments Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, “Breakaway is a touching story about a young Indian Ice Hockey player who wants to get into the big league. I am introducing Vinay Virmani, who is a very good Ice Hockey player in real life as well. The film is about an Indian family wanting to break the stranglehold that mainstream communities have abroad in sports.”

Release Date: 23 September, 2011

GOOD VIBRATIONS is the story of Belfast music legend Terri Hooley. The film stars Richard Dormer in the title role (Five Minutes of Heaven), Jodie Whittaker (One Day), Liam Cunningham (Hunger), Dylan Moran (A Cock and Bull Story) and Adrian Dunbar (The Crying Game).

The GOOD VIBRATIONS key creative team hail from Northern Ireland including husband and wife directing team Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn (Cherrybomb). With a script by writers Colin Carberry and Glenn Patterson, it is being produced by Andrew Eaton (The Trip) and Chris Martin (Peacefire). David Holmes (Ocean's Eleven) is also on the producing team and will provide the score.

Terri Hooley (Dormer) is a radical, rebel and music-lover in 1970s Belfast. When the bloody conflict known as the Troubles shuts down his city; his friends take sides and take up arms, or leave the country. But Terri decides to open a record shop on the most bombed half-mile in Europe and call it Good Vibrations. It’s a gesture of defiance - but it seems no-one cares. The shop begins to attract a motley band of mouthy kids with a love of loud music and nowhere else to go: Belfast punks. When Terri hears the punk bands play, he hears the lost spirit of his city. Terri has found a mission. He needs to get this music and this energy heard in an outside world that’s written off Belfast. With these bands, he has a shot at resurrecting the city he loves, through the most powerful force he knows: music. Terri and his young punk protégés struggle against the myriad dark forces of the Troubles, and Terri’s own particular urge toward self-destruction, in a bid to create an alternative Ulster, to bring Belfast back to life.

Producers Andrew Eaton and Chris Martin said: "We are absolutely delighted to see this project come to fruition. To be able to tell the story of Belfast's godfather of punk, Terri Hooley, and to carry forward the resilience and spirit that was shown throughout the 70's and 80's Good Vibrations era. This ethos and spirit has been a major driving force in what we have done and will do as a production.”

Director of Photography is Ivan McCullough (The Eclipse); Production Design is by Derek Wallace (Triage); Costume Design by Maggie Donnelly (Five Minutes of Heaven) and the Editor is Nick Emerson (Cherrybomb). The film is Executive Produced by Joe Oppenheimer (BBC Films), Nigel Thomas (Matador Pictures), Bruno Charlesworth (Immaculate Conception Films), Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan (Treasure Entertainment).
